Branding Through Stationery

In every business, be it a small cafe or large firm, corporate stationeries like name card, letterhead, envelope,  flyers etc are essential as it creates an identity for your business.

At VIP, we understand that many business owners nowadays:

- Does not have an idea on how to create an identity for their business,
- Does not know where to start,
- Does not realize the magnitude corporate stationeries speak for your brand.

That's where we come into the picture :)

To share with you, this is how we normally work with our customers on corporate stationeries.

Phase 1: Coffee (or Teh Tarik) Chat
At this phase, our priority is to understand what is your business all about; who you are; what is the company's unique selling point, business philosophy, background etc. We will also discuss the requirements of the items required (item specification are as listed at the end of this entry).

Phase 2: Quotation
Based on our understanding of your requirement, we will propose a suitable package.

Phase 3: Acceptance of Quotation and Design Stage
Once the quotation is confirmed, VIP will work on 2-3 design options.

Phase 4: Confirmation of Artwork and Printing Stage
Once an artwork is chosen and confirmed, we will proceed to the printing stage.

Phase 5: Delivery
Once the stationeries are printed and packaged, goods will be delivered to your doorstep.

Hope the above will give you an idea on where to start! Let us know how we can help you further. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to drop us an email at hello@vip.net.my

Cheers!

Media Exposure

One of our services is to provide Public Relations consultation and management. As PR consultants, we become the sole liaison with press/media, bloggers, the public, for our client. It is our responsibility to help clients project and uphold their USP, image/reputation.

Recently, we were commissioned by the Nation Building Pioneers (a.k.a. Persatuan Perintis Bina Negara) to manage the Public Relations of their latest project, a musical, which was due in 2-weeks time. Talk about tight schedule!

Within two short weeks, or technically just 10-working days, we prepared and sent out press releases; liaised with media/press + bloggers; arranged interviews and managed the musical's official social sites.

In this entry, we'll like to share some of the pre-event coverage that was published:

Sin Chew Daily, Metro Edition. Page 28. December 3rd, 2011

The Star, Nation Edition. Page 3. December 1st, 2011

The Star, R.AGE. Page 8. November 30th, 2011

Apart from the main features, the musical was also announced in various print media e.g. Oriental Daily.

Traditional print media is still very much alive and essential. We received many enquiries from readers.

There are many ways to get client's product/services featured. For example, we arranged an interview with the Star R.AGE journalist and members of PPBN and cast. This way, the journalist will be able to probe further and get more 'juice' for the story. Or, the traditional way would be the PR agency (us, in this case) preparing the press releases, and sending it to the press via mail or email.

The pre-event coverage on Sin Chew Daily and The Star Nation Edition (as seen above) is a result of our press release.

If you'd like to know more about branding, media exposure and more, please write to us at hello@vip.net.my

Cheers,
J

Art is for Everyone!

Remember when you were young and you were drawing, painting, or making a doh castle? Remember that sense of calmness and peace in you? Like nothing else in the world matters...

Now that we're adults, why can't we still draw and paint and make doh castles? Art should be for everyone and anyone!

In 2010, we've had the pleasure to speak to Chow Yun Yun on her views on art education in Malaysia. Watch video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uujp0bSToMM&feature=related

This year, we approached Yun Yun again. This time, on the topic of 'Art is for Everyone'.

It doesn't matter if you're 20, 50 or 80 years old. Anyone can pick up a pencil and doodle. Unleash the 'child' in you. Let your imagination run free. Express yourself through art. It's such a great way to unwind and feel calm.

We're in the midst of setting up our training room @ Solaris Dutamas!

The contractors have been selected and we're currently waiting for the Solaris Dutamas management to approve the renovation application. Once that's done, reno works will start and hopefully, the facility will be ready by end of May. Fingers crossed that everything will go smooth.

Bring On The Learning Revolution by Sir Ken Robinson

I think TedTalks is an incredible movement. It's such an inspiring platform where people share and listen to ideas. Just ideas alone.

For this blog entry, I'd like to share "Bring on the learning revolution!" by Sir Ken Robinson.

He made strong statements in his talk, some which I particular like:

"I think we're obsessed with getting people to college.... I don't mean you shouldn't go to college, but not everybody needs to go; not everybody needs to go now; maybe they go later, not right away".

Then he talked about how parents are obsessed with getting their child into kindergarden. And guess what, it is so crazy to the extend that some kindergarden actually interview the poor child prior to enrollment! Sir Ken made a funny example of how the interview might go:

A 3-year old sitting in front of a panel; The head panel flipping through the child's resume. "What? this is it? You've been around for 36 months and this is it? You've achieved nothing! You spent the first 6 months breastfeeding I see!"

Hilarious I tell you...

I also like what he said here:

"We've build our education system on the model of fast food, where everything is standardized."

"We've sold ourselves into the fast food model of education and it's impoverishing our spirit as much as fast food is depleting our physical bodies."

I think it's important for us to realize that education is about bringing the best out of a person; it should be abovut uncovering a person's true potential and helping them get to where they want to be, or should be. Education shouldn't be about putting learners on a conveyor belt to replicate and mould them into a certain, fixed form. Everyone is unique; everyone is different. We should embrace that fact and make learning, a true learning experience. This talk by Sir Ken Robinson sure is inspiring.

Arranging a Training/Workshop Session #1

Each school has their own preferences on training arrangements. For example:

  • Some teachers/students prefer to learn at a training centre. This is because if the training is conducted within school boundaries, there will be many distractions. Teachers/students want to learn new skills in peace.
  • Some teachers/students prefer to learn in the morning; some prefer to learn during after-school hours; some prefer to learn during weekends.
  • Some teachers/students prefer that the trainer guides them step-by-step; some prefer self-pace learning with our custom made PDF manuals.
  • Some teachers/students prefer large group settings; some prefer small group settings; some prefer 1:1 training.

There are so many other types of arrangements, depending on the school/department's requirements. Whatever the requirement may be, our main priority is to customize a suitable training program for our customers.

Having said that, trainers do have our own views how a training should go about. Here's some insights from a trainers' point of view:

  • The right frame of mind. It is important that teachers/students come in the training with the right heart and mind, which is to embrace new skills.
  • The best training time is in the morning. This is when the mind is most alert.
  • Training should not be more than six hours a day. To include a one hour lunch break and two short breaks during the six hour training will be most ideal.
  • The recommended training hours is from 9am to 3pm (full day training); 9am to 12pm (half day training).
  • If the training is arranged to be conducted at school premise, it should be conducted in an isolated room. Conference room and computer lab are great as it is generally more quiet and generates minimal distractions. We do not recommend to have training sessions in normal classrooms or teachers room. The last thing we want from participants is for them to worry and think about their work.
  • The school's person-in-charge should inform and distribute the program outline to all participants at least one-week before the training. This is to ensure that all participants know what they will be learning in the training, and this will allow them to walk in the training with more mental preparation.

Well, that's all for the first installment of "Arranging a Training/Workshop Session". If you're in the midst of arranging for a training session or workshop, I do hope the above list helped you in some ways.

Please feel free to give us your thoughts and feedbacks via the comment box. We'd love to hear from you.

International Islamic University of Malaysia

VIP has been very fortunate to conduct a training for the International Islamic University of Malaysia's Centre of Language & Pre-University Academy Development (CELPAD).

Why fortunate? The Dean and Lecturers are IIUM are such friendly people to be with. Plus, the campus is so beautiful!

All in all, we conducted three trainings for them-Snow 101 Mac OS X Support Essentials 10.6 training and Snow 201 Mac OS X Server Essentials 10.6 training (both by Shah) and Mac 'N More training by yours truly.

It's good to hear first hand account on how they feel excited about the Apple products as Educators; how they feel it will benefit their students and themselves in a long run :)

The Green Screen Effect-iMovie

© Very Imaginative People Enterprise. Please do not distribute or re-publish contents of this blog without written permission.

For this session of iMovie workshop, teachers are divided into two class-basic and advanced. Both group will learn a different iMovie skill set within 2-hours time.

In the advanced class, we introduced the green screen effect to the teachers, and... it was a hit!

We always see Hollywood movies' behind-the-scene footages, or the-making-of videos, and one element that always appear is the green or blue screen. The green or blue screen effect allows us to put a character on another live or animated video scene. Think about your evening news weather report or maybe Avatar, you'd believe they're running around in an enchanted forest when in reality, the actors are acting with only green screens! Talk about professionalism right.

So, the equipments are pretty basic. You just need to have: florescent green coloured paper (from neighborhood stationary shop; RM 3.30 per piece) and iMovie on the Mac. Wa-lah!
