Two Fantastic Academies in Indonesia

Above: Smiley JWA teachers = happy training!

On Monday morning, Apple Singapore called to ask if I could fly over to Jakarta the next day for a series of training. I immediately accepted the task and proceeded with arrangements.

On Tuesday, I arrived in Jakarta (first time in Indonesia!) and rested for the night at Lumire Hotel.

On Wednesday, the training at Jakarta World Academy went very well. I really enjoyed working with the teachers and it was such a joy seeing them have fun with the Mac. The Academy is so beautiful and modern! Children today are so lucky to have top notch facilities to play with from young. They are also very blessed to have a group of academic team and school management that emphasize greatly on delivering quality education.

After the workshop at JWA, I took a cab with JWA's marketing lady Engel to Tangerang, where Sinarmas World Academy is located. Due to the traffic, I arrived at Hotel Santika at around 8PM+. Lovely hotel and friendly staff by the way.

On Thursday, both Jane Ross and I conducted the morning and afternoon session together-we focused on the Mac OS X overview and tips & tricks on how teachers can work efficiently with the Mac. During the evening, I conducted the Mandarin class for the Chinese teachers. Most of them hail from Beijing and honestly, I felt the pressure to deliver the class in Malaysian Mandarin. However, as it was a small and cosy group, the teachers and I had good fun with the Mac. John Mcbryde, the CEO even ordered Pizza and refreshments for the session, how very thoughtful of him!

On Friday, I packed my bags and travelled to SWA for the final session. During this session, the teachers worked on mainly Garageband and iMovie to create a project. This is great as it will give them an idea on how they can utilize the Mac to create fun projects & assignments for their respective classes. At around 3PM+, I bid my goodbyes and hop on the plane back to KL.

All in all, though it was a super last minute training engagement, the whole trip was exciting and insightful. Personally, I'm honored that VIP was given the opportunity to conduct the training for a well respected school like SWA and JWA. It was also very inspiring to meet educators like Jane Ross, John McBryde, Lynn Taylor and the entire academic team.

I'd like to thank Apple Singapore folks-Julian, Jean and Choon for the opportunity and trust given to us. We look forward to work with you soon!

World Cup Fever Workshop

VIP conducted a very fun workshop at Nexus International School on June 30th, 2010.

In conjunction with the FIFA World Cup 2010, we cooked up a World Cup Fever themed workshop specially for the teachers. Afterall, Nexus International School teachers hail from different countries; it'll be interesting to see how they express their love and excitement for their home country or favorite team through an iMovie project.

The workshop is separated into two groups-Shah handled the advanced level group, while I conducted the class for the basic level group. Both of us prepared different sets of projects for the teachers to work on.

Shah's group of teachers created a World Cup Fever Commercial using primarily the iSight and iMovie. Teachers were required to use both sets of fingers to depict the football players 'kicking' a scrunched up paper football around (e.g. left hand is painted with a Spanish flag while the right hand is painted with the Portugal flag). This is an excellent project as it combined traditional art, sports education/appreciation and technology element into one single project.

Here are some images from the Advanced Level Group:

My group of teachers on the other hand, worked in groups. They are required to work according to the slogan, "Feel the Game. Love the Game. Win the Game".

Each group were given three sets of digital camera, three sets of cardboard cut-out FIFA World Cup Trophy, three sets of card reader to transfer the images, and three real soccer ball to work with. They are also required to assign roles e.g. talent/model to pose according to the slogan, photographer, and iMovie Editor.

It was really cool to see the teachers working together to produce a project in just less than an hours time! The energy was high and the pace was just nice. Love it.

Here are some pictures from the Basic Level Group:

Snow 101 Training

Very Imaginative People (VIP) organized a Snow 101 Mac OS X Support Essentials 10.6 Training on June 23-25, 2010.

A special introductory price was offered to the participants. At the special fee, they received one official training book, one Macbook to use and great Malaysian cuisines & snacks to keep them refreshed throughout the three days.

We are honored to have Shah (one of our VIP Stars) as our Trainer for this training. Shah is a very experienced Mac user and Trainer in Malaysia. Participants were in very good hands :)

The Snow 101 Mac OS X Support Essentials 10.6 is great for those who supports & troubleshoots Mac in their working environment. For this session, we have a General Manager of Mac Borneo, a Network Consultant, and an International School's ICT Support Staff with us.

Upon completion of this training, participants will then sit for the certification exam at a Prometric Centre. Once they pass the exam, they will officially become an Apple Certified Support Professional 10.6. This is great because it's a global certification status. Definitely a great value to one's professional portfolio :)

Here are some images from the Snow 101 Training, enjoy!

Microsoft Office for Mac Training

Today, I am honored to have conducted a Microsoft Office for Mac Workshop for the Maxis folks.

Initially, I was expecting the tone of the workshop to be serious and official, as Maxis is such a huge corporation... I even wore a blazer just to make sure I 'fit in' the crowd. However, the participants were very jovial and light hearted! I really enjoyed the session with them :D

Special thanks to EpiCentre Pavillion for inviting me as the Trainer, and also hosting the workshop at their training room.
